Ambassadors of PIC urged on improvement of the Political Atmosphere in BiH

PICAmbassadors of the Board of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) met on the 23rd of February 2017 to discuss the current political situation in BiH.

The Board of Ambassadors expressed their concern regarding the serious political situation in BiH, which came as a result of the initiative to submit a request for revision of the judgment of the International Court of Justice from 2007 on complaints of BiH against Serbia and Montenegro for genocide. They expressed concern about the possible consequences that might arise without functioning of the Presidency, Parliament and the Council of Ministers of BiH and called on improving the overall political environment in the country.

“All political leaders should refrain from unilateral moves and return to the principles of compromise, dialogue, and consensus in decision-making, as well as respect for the Constitution of BiH, institutions and the rule of law,” stated ambassadors of the PIC. Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey disagreed with this paragraph.

In the conclusions of the PIC was further stated: “The Board of Ambassadors is aware of the suffering caused by genocide and other crimes, as well as the rights of victims and survivors, and noted the need to make further efforts towards reconciliation and good relations in the country and region. Tolerance, acceptance of others and peaceful coexistence are absolute imperatives of civilizations based on rights and freedoms, democracy and equality. These are the key prerequisites to continue with what has been achieved in BiH in the last two decades and move forward with the reforms needed to improve the lives of citizens and offer concrete chances to younger generations.”
