Amir SalihefendicAmir Salihefendić, a Bosnian who lives in Portugal, a few years ago founded the company Doist, engaged in applications development. Currently they have one application called Todoist which has more than four million customers.

More precisely, he founded the company in 2011 in Chile, which currently employs 35 people from more than 15 countries, and earns more than two million dollars per year.

His life story began in Jajce, where he was born. After the war he moved with his parents to Denmark, where he obtained a university degree in the field of information technologies. After Denmark he lived in Chile, Thailand, and now he has settled in Portugal with his family.

“I was quite young when I developed the application Todoist and founded a company. Now it’s all about that application”,  Salihefendić told us.

According to him, the application has become popular because it helps to easily organize the work, especially when it comes to team projects. Using the application, tasks can be shared easily by all team members on a project or in a firm, and it can monitor enforcement, deadlines, who is in charge of something and who is responsible. The application is available in more than 20 languages.

“Soon, we will be publishing a new application for team communication. Again we are creating something similar to mobile e-mail. Professionals from more than 15 countries are working on development of applications” Amir told us.

He invited the young people from B&H, who are working with applications development, to join him and to cooperate with his company, because there is still a lot of work in this field and new ideas are always welcomed.

Help From Brother

He told us how at the beginning, he got the most  help from his brother, who is also an expert in information technology, but is not dealing with the applications development. “My brother lives in Bosnia, in Jajce, and has a company that sells computers and IT equipment,” said Salihefendić. The most important thing is, according to him, that now the education in this field is accessible to everyone without any restrictions. You can learn to be a programmer using lectures from Harvard or MIT on the internet.

“Today, the most important thing is that you can succeed from anywhere, you do not have to be in the US in order to succeed and make a world-wide used product. Success is available to everyone, regardless of which country you live in,” said Salihefendić.
