Every year, the ranking of the world’s most powerful passports for 2024 has been published, and for the fourth consecutive time, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) holds the top spot. Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), as expected, occupies a mid-range position on the list, while Croatia is the highest-ranked country in the region.

This global index measures the number of countries citizens can travel to without a visa. UAE citizens have access to an impressive 133 visa-free countries and an additional 47 countries with a visa-on-arrival option, covering more than 90% of the world.

European countries dominate the ranking

Spain has overtaken Germany to claim the position of the second most powerful passport. Finland has risen in rank, securing third place alongside France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, Portugal, Norway, Switzerland, Greece, and Ireland.

Sweden, Poland, and Hungary share the fourth position, while the Czech Republic, South Korea, Estonia, Croatia, and Slovakia are in fifth place.

In sixth place are Japan, Slovenia, Latvia, New Zealand, and Liechtenstein.

Singapore, Malta, the United Kingdom (UK), Canada, Lithuania, Romania, Bulgaria, and Australia occupy the seventh spot.

BiH’s passport shares the 40th position with Moldova and Nicaragua.

The most powerful passports for 2024: First place UAE, second place Spain, third place Finland, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Denmark, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, Portugal, Norway, Switzerland, Greece, Ireland, fourth place Sweden, Poland, Hungary, fifth place Czech Republic, South Korea, Estonia, Croatia, Slovakia, sixth place Japan, Slovenia, Latvia, New Zealand, Liechtenstein, seventh place Singapore, Malta, UK, Canada, Lithuania, Romania, Bulgaria, Australia, eighth place United States (U.S.) and Iceland, ninth place Cyprus, and tenth place Malaysia and Monaco, Passportindex writes.
