The first vice-president of the Government of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, academician Rusmir Mahmutćehajić, died last night in Sarajevo at the age of 78.

This information was shared by the Federal Minister of Displaced Persons and Refugees, Nerin Dizdar, who noted that the fact that Mahmutćehajić’s attitude towards Bosnia and Herzegovina is most telling is the fact that he never allowed the name of his homeland to be written in abbreviations.

“Because Bosnia and Herzegovina must be called by its full name, as the dearest we have, as a mother,” said Dizdar.

He added that his relationship with Stolac was special, his love for his native bosom worthy of admiration and study.

“In addition to everything else, he was the man who organized and managed the restoration of all the demolished Stolac mosques and a whole series of other Stolac endowment buildings and national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although he was a world-class person and intellectual, he always returned to his Stolac and was a key person in the restoration of all important contents of the religious and cultural life of this city,” said Dizdar.

He stayed with Stolac and Stočani all his life, dedicating hundreds of written pages, public events and all his energy to his birthplace.

In addition to being the Vice President of the first Government of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mahmutćehajić was also the Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
