A boxer from Kosovo, Besar Nimani (38), was killed on Saturday evening in Bielefeld, Germany.
According to German media reports, around ten shots were fired at the boxer, and his death was confirmed at the crime scene. Police are searching for the perpetrator or perpetrators.
“At around 6 p.m., a 38-year-old from Bielefeld was walking in the city center near the Kunsthalle. One or more perpetrators shot the victim,” said police spokesperson Fabian Rickel.
The man succumbed to the severity of the injuries at the scene. According to eyewitnesses, the perpetrators were a group of men. Allegedly, they were in a nearby cafe before the crime.
German media reported that the victim had exited a hair salon when the shots were fired. According to local media, a BMW was allegedly waiting for the perpetrators with the engine running.
Nimani was born in Kosovo. He started his career in 1998 in Bielefeld at the SV Brackwede club.
Back in 2014, Nimani, his brother Berat (39), and a friend (40) were involved in an altercation with a man at a Turkish restaurant near the main train station in Bielefeld. During the altercation, Nimani hit the man with a bottle on the head. The assaulted man then pulled out a gun and fired shots.
Furthermore, German media reported that five people were injured at that time, including Besar Nimani. The perpetrator was sentenced to 18 months in prison in 2014 for violating the Firearms Act. The court assumed that the man acted in self-defense, Radio Sarajevo writes.
