An increase in the Number of Syrian Citizens going to Austria and Germany is expected

After a meeting with the mayors of the municipalities of Brežice and Središče na Drava, Slovenian Interior Minister Boštjan Poklukar said that there are no alternative locations for setting up temporary asylum centers.

The two mayors emphasize that the municipalities and the local population are against the establishment of the centers.

Poklukar reminded that due to urgency, the Government decided to establish two temporary asylum centers at the former border crossings Obrežje and in the municipality of Središče na Drava.

“We don’t have any other alternatives, so we don’t have any other government decision either. You heard that both mayors are bound by the decisions of the municipal councils, that they don’t agree with it. Believe that we will reach a compromise in the end,” said Poklukar.

Poklukar also explained to the chiefs what the routes of illegal migration are. He stated that currently the largest number of defectors at the border crossing with Croatia is in the area of the Novo mesto Police Department, i.e. the highest in the area of Brežice.

There is also a possibility of increasing crossings in the area of the Middle Drava, since the Ministry expects an increase in the number of Syrian citizens going to Austria and Germany.

He reminded that in August, September and October last year, the centers for asylum seekers were bursting at the seams, which is why the Government is planning the mentioned temporary centers for asylum this year.

This is a temporary decision due to urgency, the Minister of the Interior emphasized, Anadolu Agency writes.
