The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo today sentenced Anel Bećirović to 20 years in prison for the murder of his common-law wife Emira Maslan in November 2023.

Bećirović had previously been convicted of abusing Emira Maslan, and he committed the murder while he was under a restraining order. The murder took place on the night of November 12-13, 2023, in Emira’s apartment on Bosanska Street in Alipašino Polje. He shot Emira in the head.

Their then 4-year-old son was in the apartment. According to the prosecutor, the child experienced severe trauma. This is a serious disorder, because the child was exposed to severe emotional violence.

At the last hearing, the prosecution requested the maximum sentences provided by law for all the criminal offenses he is charged with, which are murder, domestic violence and illegal possession of weapons, Fena writes.
