The celebration of the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China was held tonight in Sarajevo, and the Chinese ambassador Chen Bo noted the great development of relations between China and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), as well as the fact that in the past 12 months BiH has recorded stable economic growth and made steps on its European path.

“In April, there was a large visit of Chinese businessmen to Mostar and the Fair of Agricultural Products and Wine 16 + 1 was held within the Mostar Fair. In May, the BiH delegation took part in the Belt and Road Forum and signed the Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation between the Chinese government and the Council of Ministers of BiH in the framework of the Belt and the Road, ten days later, the establishment of the Center for Development and Promotion of the Belt and Road in Bosnia and Herzegovina was announced in Sarajevo,” she noted.

According to her, from January to July this year, 16,138 Chinese tourists, or 120 percent more than in the same period of 2016, visited BiH.

She emphasized that China supports holding of the fourth high-level conference on tourism cooperation within 16 + 1 in Sarajevo until the end of this year.

“Negotiations between the two foreign ministries on further visa facilitation are in progress and we anticipate broad prospects for the tourist cooperation of our countries,” she noted.

Chen also noted that the Stanari Thermal Power Plant, built by a Chinese company, has been working full capacity for 360 days, during which it produced over 2.2 billion kilowatt hours of electricity.

She added that negotiations on loan guarantees for Block 7 of Tuzla Thermal Power Plant were completed and the Chinese company is ready to start construction in the near future.

Chen used the evening reception to thank BiH partners for their assistance, as well as colleagues from the diplomatic support corps, as well as all the Chinese who live and work in this country who have worked tirelessly to develop the relations between China and BiH.

She emphasized that in the past twelve months in China there has been great development. The medium rate of economic growth was maintained, and the growth of 6.9 percent in the first half of this year surpassed the expectations. 7.35 million jobs have been created. In addition, the Chinese growth pattern focuses more on quality and efficiency.

The Chairman of the BiH Presidency Dragan Covic and other officials from the political and public life of BiH and diplomatic corps attended the ceremonial gathering.

The commemoration of the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China began with the intonation of the anthems of the two countries, and a special exhibition was also set up.
