Answers to the Questionnaire of the EC adopted, it will lead us to Candidate Status soon

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Denis Zvizdic, stated that answers to the Questionnaire of the European Commission were unanimously adopted at the session of the Council of Ministers of BiH, which represents a precondition for obtaining candidate status for membership in the EU.

Answering the Questionnaire was complex task, said Chairman Zvizdic, but the unanimous adoption of these answers is a clear message where BiH wants to be and that is the membership in the EU.

After this decision of the Council of Ministers of BiH will follow a professional revision within the next seven days, and Chairman Zvizdic confirmed that all the remaining procedures will be finalized with the aim for the answers to be handed over to the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, by February 28, when his visit to BiH is scheduled.

“The largest and most complex work has been completed. Around 1,200 people worked at this stage and this will certainly lead us to a candidate status, which means an irreversible process on the path of BiH to the EU,” said Chairman Zvizdic.

He also stated that this is an important news for everyone who see BiH in the EU because it is a precondition for obtaining candidate status, but he believes that BiH, like other regional countries, will receive additional questions.

Montenegro, Serbia and Albania received an average of 2,200 questions at the beginning, while Montenegro and Serbia received 600 and Albania 500 additional questions that referred to clarifications of some terms or procedures, and therefore, Chairman Zvizdic expects that BiH will receive additional questions as well.

“Answers to the Questionnaire show the real situation in BiH; it is an inventory of status of BiH – not a law or the Constitution, it will not change anything or legalize anything. It is a realistic representation of the situation in BiH, in order of the European Commission to have an insight into the degree of compatibility of laws and procedures in BiH and to have clear guidelines on how to proceed and what are the priorities on which they should work,” said Zvizdic.
