Around 1,5 million biometric passports have been handed out in BiH, said the Agency for Document Identification, Registers and Data Exchange (IDDEEA) to Srna.
The Agency said that of the total number of biometric passports in the RS, around 511,000 have been given out, more than 800,000 in the FBiH, around 38,000 in the Brčko District, and more than 120,000 abroad.
Around 102,000 citizens in BiH currently use passports that are not biometric.
“Around 35,000 people in the RS use old passports, 43,000 in the FBiH, 2,044 in Brčko District, and 22,852 BiH citizens who live abroad’’, said the Agency.
Biometric passports in BiH have been handed out since 2009.
Croatia will become a full member of the EU on 1 July, and citizens of BIH will need biometric passports in order to cross the border.
