Ado Hasanović, a Sarajevo-based award-winning director who is originally from Srebrenica, made a short film called “Mama” as part of his graduate thesis at the Sarajevo Film Academy (SFA). The film will premiere at the 19th Sarajevo Film Festival.
“The film lasts for 20 minutes and this is my 11th film. SFA will, as part of the Sarajevo Film Festival, organize a projection of student films, where “Mama” will be shown. In addition, I have applied for the BiH program of SFF and I hope that the film will be shown’’, said Hasanović for klix.ba
Hasanović received the theme of the film from the Academy. The task was to tell a story of a person who gets out of jail and the events that take place 24 hours after release.
“I’ve thought long and conducted research about what to do. This topic is challenging and difficult, as much as you think it is easy to do. I randomly found an article in the newspaper about a woman who killed her husband, and this same story was told to me in detail by an acquaintance. I got the inspiration for the script, which I wrote with Mohammadrez Farzad, a student at Film.factory in Sarajevo’’, said Hasanović, who also explained how this film is the result of his three-year study at SFA.
The film speaks of a mother (Gordana Boban), who served a 13-year jail sentence for killing her husband. The mother meets her son (Emir Fejzić), who has a girlfriend (Ena Kurtalić), and a conflict arises when the mother finds out that the son is leaving the country to go live in another part of the world.
“This is my fourth short film, and I wish to draw attention to domestic violence and the evil that it brings to all who take part in it. “What differentiates ‘Mama’ from the rest of my films is that I am working with professional actors for the first time, and this is a great pleasure and experience for me, which I will always remember’’, said Hasanović. He pointed out that he is proud that his mentor for this graduate thesis is Professor Nenad Dizdarević.
For his last documentary film “The Blue Viking in Sarajevo” Hasanović won the award for the best documentary film at Balkan Snapshots in Amsterdam and the DukaFestival in Banja Luka.
Hasanović will participate in the third edition of the Balkan FilmFest, which will be held in five Polish cities. As part of the festival, films from Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, Croatia, BiH and Bulgaria will be shown, and Hasanović will participate with his three films: “Anđeo Srebrenice” from 2010, “Art Instalation Sarajevo Red Line” and “The Blue Viking in Sarajevo” from 2012.
