Azerbaijan is interested in investing in energy projects in Republika Srpska, said Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik after a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev yesterday in Hungary.
As he said, Azerbaijan wants to develop energy, gas and oil projects.
“They are prospectively the most important suppliers of gas and oil in that area. We previously gave consent in principle to the gas pipeline that went from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Montenegro, Albania. However, in the period when the Minister of Foreign Affairs was Zlatko Lagumdžija, when they started to ban the gas pipeline project from Serbia, it was stopped, then it was our interest. Now it is waiting for a joint solution and I believe that the agreement will be reached through joint efforts,” said Dodik.
He added that he has nothing against that gas pipeline coming to Bosnia and Herzegovina, but that, as he said, there must be a readiness for an agreement.
The President of the RS pointed out that the meeting with Aliyev was very constructive, and that Aliyev is undoubtedly a great leader of his country, who brought Azerbaijan into the ranks of stable countries.
“And what he is doing here today is that he is negotiating energy projects with the EU and Hungary that will in some way affect us as well, because a part will go through Serbia. Alijev expressed interest in working on issues related to energy in the Republika Srpska, interested it is the responsibility of the joint level and Republika Srpska,” said Dodik.
He stated that by the end of this month, the problem related to Azerbaijan’s investment in Doboj, where they want to activate an industrial plant, will be resolved.
Dodik announced a visit to Baku in the fall, the aim of which will be to encourage further cooperation and projects.
