As the youngest festival in the capital city of B&H, Balet Fest Sarajevo has grown into a respectable and recognizable event whose original goal, the popularization of the art of ballet, has been accomplished. It will take place from 20-28 September this year for the fourth year in a row.

In an interview for ‘Sarajevo Times’, the Artistic Director of Balet Fest Sarajevo Edina Papo said that this year’s festival will open with a wonderful exhibition of photographs by Fuad Foča, who documented the previous three festivals.

‘Balet Fest will begin on 20 September with a performance by Shut UP & Dance, choreographed by Ronald Savković and produced by HNK Ivan pl. Zajc from Rijeka. A domestic production will take place on 24 September with a performance of Mare Nostrum, which took place in the last season of ballet of the Sarajevo National Theatre’’, said Edina Papo.

On 25 September, the Belgrade National Theatre will present a performance called ‘Ko to tamo peva’, choreographed by Staša Zurovac. This is a play based on motifs from the film that bears the same name.

‘’There will be master workshops this year as well. They will last three days and will be led by the celebrated prima ballerina Emina Minka Kamberović, the soloist of the golden days of Sarajevo ballet and the founder of lower ballet school 29 November.  Emina Kamberović lives and works today in Zurich’’, said Edina Papo.

At the end of the festival there will be a visit by the Russian classical ballet Ekaterinburg that will hold two gala concerts on 27 and 28 September.
