Head of the EU Delegation and the EU Special Representative in B&H Peter Sorensen and several ambassadors of EU member states have visited yesterday Banja Luka fortress Kastel,whose long-awaited revitalization began thanks to the EU funds in the amount of 2.5 million euros.
The Mayor of Banja Luka Slobodan Gavranović thanked Sorensen and EU diplomats for all what they have done for this city, and the most for the support to the project of the reconstruction fortress Kastel, the unit nine.
Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative in B&H Peter Sorensen stated that EU in cooperation with local government will financially assist in reconstruction of Kastel noting that until now the cooperation with the largest city of RS is good.
For years, the oldest historical monument in Banja Luka, before a military fort,where there were found the remains of a Neolithic village fort, was waiting for restoration. In the plans for the restoration and revitalization of the“Kastel” is foreseen that one part of these facilities to be reconstructed in order that the fortress to have the closer appearance as it used to be before.
