The head coach of the BiH national football team, Sergej Barbarez, said that his team played the first 60 minutes of the match against Switzerland at the highest level, and that the final score of 1:4 was definitely too high.
“Unfortunately, we conceded that first goal as we conceded, due to a mistake. The ball is not kicked into the field but out. And then that red card. After that, even more experienced teams would have a problem,” said Barabrez.
After two games played, Bosnia and Herzegovina has one point won, and in order to maintain any chances of going further, it is imperative to win the last game of the group stage against Qatar.
“This is the group stage, we know how things work, we know who we are playing against, we will try to prepare and win that match,” added the Bosnian coach.
National team captain Edin Džeko agreed with Barbarez that the heavy defeat was the result of our team’s big mistakes.
“We couldn’t hold on in those last 20 minutes. All the goals we conceded, we conceded naively. At 1:0, when we got that red card, we should have closed ourselves off more and thought about how not to concede another goal, and going forward take advantage of one or two chances if they arise,” said Džeko.
The Bosnian striker added that the match against Qatar will not be easy at all.
“We need to rest, prepare well and try to win. Although today’s defeat hurts, because in the end the goal difference can also decide whether we advance,” concluded Džeko.
