Becirovic and Macron Discuss the Status of the High Representative and the Role of the OHR

The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, held a bilateral meeting with the President of the Republic of France, Emmanuel Macron. The focus of the conversation was the preservation of peace, the role of OHR, as well as the European and Euro-Atlantic path of our country.

As it was announced, during the meeting with the French leader, Bećirović particularly emphasized the importance of preserving the stability and functionality of the state institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In this context, he pointed to the importance of the role of the Office of the High Representative in BiH (OHR) as a key mechanism for protecting the Dayton Peace Agreement, preserving peace and supporting reform processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bećirović welcomed the proactive and responsible involvement of the Republic of France in the Peace Implementation Council. He particularly emphasized the importance of observing the defined procedure for appointing a high representative exclusively by the Peace Implementation Council. He said that the mandate and competences of the high representative must not be jeopardized, which is very important for peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Chairman of the BiH Presidency expressed his gratitude for the principled and continuous support that the Republic of France provides to Bosnia and Herzegovina on the way to European and Euro-Atlantic integration. He said that it is extremely important for Bosnia and Herzegovina to become a member of NATO and the European Union (EU) as soon as possible.

He particularly emphasized the significant role of the Republic of France, as one of the key members of NATO and the EU, in supporting reforms and the Euro-Atlantic future of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bećirović welcomed the contribution and support of the Republic of France to the EUFOR Althea mission, and pointed out the importance of extending the mandate of this mission.

During the conversation, satisfaction was expressed with the cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of France so far, and the importance of continued cooperation with the aim of strengthening the stability, security and progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region was emphasized. It was pointed out that the friendly relations between the two countries represent a good basis for the intensification of political dialogue and the realization of joint projects of mutual interest.

On the other hand, President Emmanuel Macron reiterated France’s firm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The French president pointed out that the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina is an important element of the overall security of the region. He said that France will continue its active engagement, contributing to peace, stability and prosperity.

At the end of the meeting, mutual satisfaction was expressed with the cooperation between the two countries so far, and it was assessed that friendly relations represent an excellent basis for the intensification of political dialogue and the realization of joint projects of mutual interest.
