BiH Presidency Member Denis Bećirović received the Japanese Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Toshihiro Aiki, on an inaugural visit.

They discussed bilateral relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Japan, multilateral cooperation, and the political and security situation in our country. The interlocutors noted that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Japan, which next year will mark 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, are developing cooperation based on solid foundations.

Bećirović wished the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador a successful mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and expressed hope that the strengthening and improvement of friendly relations between the two countries will continue. He said that economic and development cooperation between the two countries is particularly important, and that there are numerous opportunities and potentials for further investment.

They also discussed potential investments by Japanese companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was emphasized that Japan is the second most important bilateral donor in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The importance of development assistance through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which has been implemented in our country for many years, was highlighted.

Also, BiH Presidency Member Denis Bećirović said that he greatly appreciates Japan’s support during the adoption of the Resolution on the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide in 1995, during the vote in the United Nations General Assembly. The Ambassador of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina Toshihiro Aiki said that Japan wants to intensify political and economic relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as cooperation on the international level.

He emphasized that Japan, as a member of the G-7 and the PIC (Peace Implementation Council), supports the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
