Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, received Head of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Johann Sattler. The focus of the meeting was the European integration process of our country, and Bećirović provided full support for the Declaration of the European Union – Western Balkans Summit, which is being held today in Tirana.

They also discussed the upcoming session of the European Council this month, which should decide on the candidate status for membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the European Union.

Bećirović emphasized that the authorities must focus on solving the priorities from the recommendation of the European Commission for the candidate status of Bosnia and Herzegovina, among other things, on adopting amendments to the law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, on conflicts of interest and on courts, as well as on taking decisive steps in the fight against corruption and organized crime.

As the member of the Presidency of BiH Bećirović pointed out, it is of great importance that Bosnia and Herzegovina turn in the direction of European and Euro-Atlantic integrations and that activities on that front be intensified. At the meeting, it was emphasized that the candidate status for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s membership in the EU would be a great opportunity for the newly formed authorities to immediately start implementing the recommended measures. Both interlocutors agreed that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path has no alternative.

Ambassador Sattler stated that the European Commission’s recommendation for granting BiH candidate status is a strong incentive for all actors in Bosnia and Herzegovina to work more intensively on the implementation of the necessary reforms, and encouragement for the citizens that the European perspective is visible and very possible announced the Presidency of BiH.
