On the occasion of the anniversary of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s admission to the United Nations (UN), a member of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, today organized a reception for the former president of the UN Security Council, Diego Arria.

The two discussed the historical significance of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s admission to the United Nations and the current challenges facing Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bećirović emphasized that, with the recognition in the UN, Bosnia and Herzegovina entered the international stage as an internationally recognized and independent country.

“Today we celebrate the 31st anniversary of the admission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Nations. On the 22nd of May 1992, our country completed its international identity as an independent, sovereign and unique country after a democratic referendum and declaration of independence. That’s why I consider May 22, 1992 one of the most significant dates in the history of our country,” said Bećirović.

He thanked for the support that Ambassador Diego Arria provided to Bosnia and Herzegovina during and after the aggression against our country.

Venezuelan diplomat and former president of the UN Security Council Diego Arria thanked Bećirović for his reception at the BiH Presidency.

He said that only Bosnia and Herzegovina is a member of the United Nations and that this is an unavoidable and permanent fact.

The United Nations failed the exam in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that is why it is the duty of the international community to correct the injustice towards this old European country, announced the BiH Presidency.
