NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, after a meeting with the Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović at the NATO headquarters in Brussels, said that all politicians must work together to preserve unity and protect state institutions, which is key to peace and security in BiH, but and for the stability of the Western Balkans.

He stated that the Alliance supports the implementation of reforms in BiH, and that their full implementation is one of the two most important conditions for full membership of BiH in NATO.

“BiH has the status of a country with an Action Plan for membership, the goal of which is for BiH to be a member of the Alliance. The conditions are for reforms to really be implemented, to strengthen joint institutions and the multi-ethnic nature of the Armed Forces of BiH. The second condition is that the people must want it, as well as political authorities. Bosnia and Herzegovina decides on that,” noted Stoltenberg.

He said that NATO is ready to continue practical cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina and to help further strengthen the capacities of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the field of cybercrime and the fight against terrorism.

Stoltenberg reiterated that BiH is a long-standing NATO partner that strongly supports its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the Altea operation to ensure a safe environment, and he praised BiH for the recent progress on the road to EU membership, Srna reports.
