The Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zukan Helez, assessed today that Bosnia and Herzegovina is progressing on the way to full membership in the NATO alliance.

In this context, he reminds that the official announcement of the NATO alliance states that our country could receive the status of a candidate for joining this alliance already in May this year at the spring session of the Assembly for the NATO summit.

“Currently, our country is in the Action Plan for membership, which is the last step before the invitation to full membership. Bosnia and Herzegovina is the closest to achieving that goal out of all the candidates interested in joining the NATO alliance,” announced Helez on his Facebook profile.

As he further states, the Ministry of Defense of BiH and the Armed Forces of BiH continuously harmonize their activities, work and plans with NATO standards and are the leaders of our country’s NATO path.

“There are certain political actors who, at the behest of Belgrade and Moscow, are unsuccessfully trying to slow down our country’s NATO path. They have personal interests in slowing down our country’s NATO path, but citizens in BiH, and polls show that more and more citizens in the BiH entity Republika Srpska , understand that only the membership of our country in the NATO alliance ensures peace, security, stability and economic progress. All the countries that joined NATO have prospered in every way. The experience of the expansion of the Alliance has shown that every country experienced an increase in direct foreign investments after joining the membership and the growth of gross social income. By joining the NATO alliance, it ensures the rule of law, which leads to a safer and more stable state, greater investments and opportunities for new jobs,” says Helez.

At the same time, he asks: “Why would anyone, including citizens in the RS, refuse to live in security in a good economic standard?”.

“In addition to these benefits, our country’s membership in the NATO alliance guarantees the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity. The area that was under the protection of the NATO alliance has never suffered an act of aggression in the last 74 years. of the country and I will do everything, within the powers given by law, to achieve that goal,” said BiH Defense Minister Zukan Helez.
