Mayor of Sarajevo, Alija Behmen, met today with mayor of Swedish town Umeå Tamara Špirić, whose origins are in Sarajevo. Umeå has been nominated to be the European Capital of Culture for 2014, and Sarajevo is also a candidate.

Špirić said that she’d like to see Umeå participate in the next year’s Sarajevo Winter, and added that she’d like to establish the cooperation with the authorities of Sarajevo in the aim of implementing the project that Umeå wants to establish with Sarajevo, Belgrade and Zagreb.

‘The idea is that symphonic orchestra of the four cities present their performance in the joint program that will be covered by media in 2015’, said Špirić and added that the European community has offered the financial aid in realization of this project.

‘It would be my honour and great pleasure if you would accept this form of cooperation, since Sarajevo is the European bridge of cultures in 2014’, said Špirić.

Behmen said that 2014 has a special meaning, because in that year a series of important anniversaries will happen, and some them marked not just BiH history but the history of Europe and the entire World.
