Volkan Konak, a popular Turkish singer who was recognizable by his voice and, according to the Turkish media, made a significant contribution to Turkish folk music, died during a concert in Cyprus.

Konak collapsed during a performance on stage. He was rushed to a government hospital but was declared brought dead despite the efforts of doctors.

Konak collapsed during the singing. The video shows band members and organizers coming to help.

The death of the singer was confirmed by the mayor of Ankara, Mansur Yavas.

“The ‘Son of the North’ Volkan Konak has passed away. His powerful voice touched our hearts, his songs that brought the rebellious wind of the Black Sea will now live in our memories. He was not only an artist. He was the voice, heart and friend of these countries. May God have mercy on him, condolences to his loved ones,” he wrote.

Konak was a favorite figure of Turkish music known for blending folk and modern styles.
