It has been 18 years since the B&H football team played its first official match on its home soil. Their opponent at Bilino Polje in Zenica was Albania. Albania hosted B&H on 30 November 1995 in Tirana, and goals from Šendra brought a win of 2:0.
The B&H football association waited for approval by FIFA to play official friendly matches at home. After the war ended, FIFA allowed the B&H team to host Albania.
The now historical match took place on 24 April 1996 at BIlino Polje, and the B&H football players came from various parts of the world.
Their arrival to a war torn country was the hardest possible task for players with their coach Fuad Muzurović.
The match ended without any goals, and in the same year the B&H team in Kalamata played its first official qualification match with Greece, and they lost to Greece with 3:0 (1 September 1996).
The match with Albania took place 18 years ago, and the B&H team was ‘of age’, and the Dragons for the first time in history have qualified for Mundial that will take place this year in June.
