US President Joe Biden confirmed that the United States of America is introducing more than 500 sanctions against Russia due to the events in Ukraine and the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, it was announced on the White House website.

Announcing the new sanctions, Biden called Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine a “war of conquest”, TASS reported.

“Sanctions will cover individuals associated with Navalny’s jailing, as well as Russia’s financial sector, defense industrial base, procurement networks and those who evade sanctions on multiple continents,” Biden said.

He said the US is also imposing new export restrictions on nearly 100 legal entities for what he called “covert support for Russia’s war machine.”

“We are taking steps to further reduce Russia’s energy earnings. I have directed my team to strengthen support for civil society, independent media and all those fighting for democracy around the world,” the White House quoted Biden as saying in a statement.
