Asja Zara Lagumdzija received the award for the best female role at the 20th Marrakech International Film Festival.
After nine days of performances and debates, the jury chaired by the actress from the United States (U.S.) and Oscar winner, Jessica Chastain, announced the winners of this year’s festival, after reviewing 14 films in the official competition program.
Lagumdzija was awarded for her role in the film “Excursion” directed by Una Gunjak.
In addition to Chastain, the members of the jury were eight world-renowned film artists, actors, actresses, and directors (U.S., Australia, France, Sweden, the United Kingdom (UK), Iran, Egypt, and Morocco) from five continents.
“Mother of All Lies” was declared the best film, the Jury Prize was shared by “Hounds” and “Bye Bye Tiberius”, the best director was Ramata-Toulaye Sy for the movie “Banel & Adama”, and Nehir Tuna for the best male role, for his role in the movie “Dormitory”.
Award-winning movies were nominated from their countries for the Oscar award among the best international films.
This year’s festival awarded special prizes to Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen and Moroccan director Faouzi Bensaidi. Among the participants of the festival this year were the world-famous Oscar winner American director Martin Scorsese and actor Willem Dafoe.
At the festival, 75 films from 36 countries were shown, which were followed by 518 journalists and cameramen from 163 accredited media from six continents.
