BiH CoM Chairperson: BiH must diversify its Sources of Supply

The Chairperson of the Council of Ministers, Borjana Krišto, stated that the Southern Gas Interconnection is a key project for the energy security of BiH, which, due to its dependence on gas imports in one direction, must diversify its sources of supply.

“The Southern Gas Interconnection is not only an infrastructure project, but also a security project, which demonstrates BiH’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and connecting to the global energy market,” said Krišto.

Krištova said that the Council of Ministers supports projects that strengthen energy independence and economic development, emphasizing that their implementation requires coordination of all levels of government.

She recalled that the amendments to the Law on the Southern Gas Interconnection have been adopted by the House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament and that their adoption is also expected in the House of Peoples, as a condition for the continuation of the procedures.

According to her, the Council of Ministers can initiate the procedure for concluding the agreement only after harmonizing the key elements, adding that the new draft was received from the FBiH Government at the end of last week.

“Only from that moment on can it be possible to proceed with the conclusion of an international agreement with Croatia, with the aim of completing the process as soon as possible,” Krišto stressed.

At the roundtable “Energy Sovereignty of BiH – Southern Gas Interconnection as a Strategic Step Forward” in Mostar, Krišto stressed that energy security, sustainability and cost-effectiveness are interrelated challenges that require a strategic approach, Srna writes.
