Due to the escalation of political tension in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Minister of Defense Zukan Helez today called on citizens to remain calm and composed.

“I call on citizens in Bosnia and Herzegovina to remain calm and composed. We must not fall for the provocations of Milorad Dodik and the clique gathered around him. The incident is the last thing we need right now,” Helez wrote on his Facebook profile.

He said that the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina should be allowed to do their job.

“I am sure that the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina are fully prepared to protect the constitutional and legal order of our homeland. Let them do their job,” Helez said.

Tensions in Bosnia and Herzegovina are rising after the Republika Srpska adopted controversial laws banning the operation of the state police agency and the judiciary on the territory of that entity.

Numerous countries condemned this act led by the entity’s president, Milorad Dodik, who was sentenced by the Court of First Instance of Bosnia and Herzegovina to a year in prison and a six-year ban from holding the office of president of the RS.
