Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zukan Helez, today received a delegation from the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) in an official visit.
The visiting delegation was led by the head of the ICMP program for the Western Balkans, Matthew Holliday, who presented the current activities of this program in Bosnia and Herzegovina to Minister Helez.
ICMP ensures the cooperation of governments and other actors in the region to solve the problem of missing persons, including provisions for building institutional capacity, supporting the involvement of the general public and referring to the need for fairness in the process of finding the missing.
ICMP also provides technical support to governments in finding, exhuming and identifying missing persons throughout the region.
The International Commission on Missing Persons manages the world’s best capacity for the identification of persons based on DNA analysis.
So far, more than 19,000 missing persons from all over the world have been identified with ICMP’s help.
Helez emphasized the importance of ICMP for the process of reconciliation and stability in BiH and the region.
