A delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PSBiH) visited the NATO headquarters in Brussels.
Assistant Secretary General of NATO for Public Diplomacy Mari-Doha Besancenot expressed her satisfaction with the visit of the PSBiH Delegation to NATO headquarters, and referred to the recent visit of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
She emphasized that the visit of the Secretary General of NATO is an indication that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a very important partner for NATO, and that preserving peace and stability in the Western Balkans is one of NATO’s strategic commitments. In this regard, she said that NATO will continue to support the construction of the defense capacities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Besancenot emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina has the possibility of intensifying cooperation with NATO to the extent that the BiH authorities agree. She also said that NATO welcomes the determination of the BiH authorities to adopt a set of reform laws, which enabled BiH’s progress on the way to full membership in the European Union.
During the meeting, the role of PSBiH was particularly highlighted when it comes to the adoption of legal solutions that will clearly show the political determination to help further strengthen the defense and security sector. They also discussed the need to intensify dialogue within BiH, build mutual trust, and continue the reform process.
The PSBiH delegation is led by the deputy chairman of the Joint Commission for Defense and Security of BiH and the deputy chairman of the PSBiH Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PSNATO) Marina Pendeš, and the delegation also includes members of the Joint Commission for Defense and Security of BiH Sredoje Nović, Sanja Vulić, Zdenko Ćosić , Sherif Špago, Safet Softić, Slavko Matić, Milan Dunović, and BiH Parliamentary Military Commissioner Boško Šiljegović.
The talks at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels were also attended by the Commander of the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo, Brigadier General Pamela McGaha, it was announced from the Public Relations Department of the PSBiH.
