In the sample of a patient hospitalized at the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska, RNA Influenza A (H3) and SARS-CoV-2 (Film Array method – respiratory panel RP2 plus) – fluron – were detected today. This is the first case of simultaneous infection with these two viruses detected in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This is a patient from Banja Luka, born in 2000.
The patient is currently conscious, and hemodynamically and respiratory stable.
In the Department of Clinical Microbiology of the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska, there is a possibility of simultaneous detection of more than 20 parameters of diagnosis of the most common viral and bacterial infections of the respiratory tract on BIOFIRE FILMARRAY SYSTEMS (Biomerieux) within an hour.
“This significantly speeds up diagnostics and contributes to the quality of service. We are currently the only institution in Republika Srpska that has the possibility of this diagnosis,” the health institution said.
This finding confirms the circulation of both viruses in the population, and the possibility of co-infection caused by influenza virus and SARS-CoV-2, similar to that already confirmed in other countries.
