BiH and EBRD soon to sign a Loan Memorandum for a 120 Million Euro Highway

The Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), Fadil Novalic, hosted yesterday the director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Central and Southeastern Europe, Charlotte Ruhe, at the headquarters of the FBiH Government in Sarajevo. The focus was on a new loan for the highway across BiH.

The central topics of yesterday’s talks were the investment plans and priorities of the Federal government, and the implementation of the existing projects of this European financial institution in BiH. At the head of the list of priorities discussed yesterday is the continuation and dynamization of the construction of a large infrastructure project such as the highway on Corridor 5c.

Special attention was paid to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Public Utility (PU) “Autoceste Federacije BiH” and the EBRD on the development and construction of road infrastructure in BiH, which would provide a loan of 120 million euros for the continuation of the construction of Corridor 5c which connects Budapest with Ploce. This document, worth 180 million euros, should be signed by the representatives of the EBRD and the entity ministers of transport and communications during next week in London.

Prime Minister Novalic emphasized the importance of the support provided by the EBRD to the FBiH, highlighting the priorities in the construction of Corridor VC, which are, as he said, a tunnel through Prenj and the Ivan tunnel, which would practically connect Sarajevo with Konjic.

It was also discussed about the interest of both sides for cooperation with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the possibilities of investing in infrastructure through public-private partnership, and other projects through which the EBRD could contribute to development in these fields.
