BiH FM before the Security Council: Genocide took Place in the UN protected Zone, and the whole World was silent

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković addressed the United Nations Security Council tonight and said that Bosnia and Herzegovina fully supports the statement of the Group of Friends for responsibility after the aggression against Ukraine.

“Our world today, unfortunately, is far from peaceful and safe. It is a world in which injustice and intolerance call into question our common values, the very foundation of our humanity and prosperity. Russian aggression against Ukraine is not an isolated case, but represents the most obvious violation of the UN Charter and international law. Its consequences are catastrophic with numerous lost lives, destroyed families and millions of displaced persons, which led to a humanitarian crisis,” Konaković pointed out.

He added that UN members must be determined and that “we don’t have to look far into the past to see what happens when our community of nations does not maintain and defend the rules and norms of the world order.”

“We have the right and obligation to speak loudly about this issue because we experienced the genocide that took place in the UN protected zone, in my country, in Srebrenica, while the whole world was silent,” stressed Konaković.

In his address, he assessed that violating the rules of the UN Charter is no longer acceptable and that it is an insult to “our common values”.

He reminded that “it is our duty to stand behind the noble principles on which this Organization was built” and that effective responses require responsibility, respect for international norms, strong coalitions and progressive, inclusive leadership.

He emphasized that “despite obstacles, such as the abuse of veto rights, we took a decisive step through the General Assembly and express our determination to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and principles based on justice”.

In the end, Konaković said that “together we will persevere in the request to stop this kind of violence and we will work tirelessly for overall peace”, BHRT reports.
