Worrying Scenes on Boracko Lake in Bosnia and Herzegovina

On the famous beach of Prenj next to Boracko lake, long-standing poplar trees were cut down, leaving the beautiful place bare, which attracted numerous tourists during the summer days, which caused outrage among people from the surrounding towns and nature lovers.

The felling of the trees was done two days ago, and who did that work and for what reason, is unknown for now, everyone is distancing themselves from that work in some way.

The only thing that is certain for now is that since yesterday morning, the workers of Public Company Standard from Konjic have been sawing down and removing the fallen trees from that place, and they received an order for that work, which was confirmed by that company as well. However, they did not want to say who did the felling of the trees or talk about the work in more detail.

Locals assume that the tree felling was carried out by the company Sumarstvo Prenj d.d. Konjic, but that claim was rejected by the technical director of that company, Alija Sulejmanovic.

He told that his company has nothing to do with cutting down trees.

“It is not in our area, nor is it within our powers,” asserted Sulejmanovic, stating that they are one Forestry (Sumarstvo) that manages the territory of the municipality of Konjic.

Vahidin Pida Gakic from Boracko Lake claims that this work was done by companies from Konjic and believes that it was not possible without the consent of the mayor of Konjic.

“What they have done is terrifying, this is logging and it has completely changed the appearance of the beach of Boracko Lake,” said the interlocutor.

However, there was no adequate person in the City Administration of Konjic who could provide information about this event, and they said that they would contact journalists soon, but by the time this text was finished, they had not received the promised call.

To recall, in recent years the Municipality of Konjic has been arranging Prenj beach for its citizens, and the question arises whether the cutting of trees was part of some plans for arranging the natural beauty of that area.

The felling of trees as well as the destruction of the natural beauty of our country in ignorance or negligence are frequent occurrences for which there is no explanation from the relevant institutions or sanctioning of the responsible groups or individuals.

Boracko lake on the north-eastern side of the Prenj mountain is one of the most beautiful natural lakes in our country and its natural beauty is a real magnet for many tourists, Klix.ba reports.
