The Bosnia and Herzegovina national handball team was defeated by the Faroe Islands national team 24:22 in the first game of the World Championship play-off finals in Mejdan, Tuzla on Thursday evening.
The visitors opened the match better and maintained a one-to-two goal lead for most of the first half. An additional problem for the home team came in the eighth minute when Dragan Šoljić was shown a red card for hitting an opposing player.
Bosnia and Herzegovina managed to tie the game at 7:7 in the middle of the first half, but the visitors regained the lead by the time the break came and ended the first half with a 10:12 lead.
At the beginning of the second half, the visitors increased their lead to 15:11, after which the BiH national team returned to the match and, with a series of goals, reached their first lead of 17:16.
However, in the final minutes of the match, the Faroe Islands national team took control again and won by a score of 24:22.
The most efficient player for the visitors was Hakun Teigum with 11 goals, while Vilhelm Poulsen added five goals. The best player for Bosnia and Herzegovina was Faris Čolaković with seven goals, while Domagoj Alilović scored four goals.
The return match will be played on Saturday at 8:00 PM in the Faroe Islands, BHRT writes.
