The Director of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mirko Kuprešaković, stressed at a meeting in Warsaw the importance of continuing to strengthen the partnership with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), especially in the context of improving overall border security and bringing BiH closer to European standards.

“The cooperation between BiH and Frontex is of utmost importance for improving the capacities of the BiH Border Police and more efficiently managing migration and security challenges at the border. The signed and planned agreements, including the memoranda of understanding, represent a strong mechanism that enables professional, transparent and European-practice-aligned cooperation,” said Kuprešaković during the meeting of the pre-accession partners and the Frontex Management Board.

Frontex Executive Director Hans Leijtens said that the initial dialogue with the pre-accession partners had moved on to concrete joint work on operations, management and complaint mechanisms.

“By cooperating in this way, we strengthen border management, build trust and help partners align with European standards, including those on fundamental rights,” said Leijtens, who chaired the meeting.

The meeting brought together high-ranking representatives from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Moldova, and Ukraine with the aim of further deepening cooperation in the field of border security, and marking a new phase of partnership through improved cooperation mechanisms and new memoranda of understanding, the BiH Border Police announced today.

The participants agreed that meetings in this format will be held every year, which further confirms the stability and continuity of joint work.
