The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, paid an official visit to the Slovak Republic from 20 to 21 October at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.

During the visit, Konaković met with the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár. They discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European integration, regional stability and common values that bind the two countries. It was emphasized in the talks that Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Slovak Republic cherish friendly and partnership relations without open issues, and that there is significant space for improving economic cooperation, investments and trade.

The Minister thanked the Slovak Republic for its continued support for Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path to membership in the European Union, for its contribution to the EUFOR/ALTHEA mission, as well as for its support through NATO initiatives aimed at strengthening the defense capacities and resilience of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He pointed out the importance of regional cooperation through the Berlin Process, especially in the areas of mobility, the fight against corruption and gender equality. The Minister emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina is actively involved in joint initiatives that this process encourages, confirming its commitment to strengthening regional connectivity, reform goals and European values.

Minister Blanár reiterated Slovakia’s support for the European perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing the importance of continuing reform processes and political dialogue.

Minister Konaković thanked Minister Blanár for coming to Bosnia and Herzegovina on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, whereby Slovakia once again confirmed its commitment to respecting the victims and building a stable and peaceful regional environment.

Konaković informed his interlocutors about the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the challenges that are slowing down the country’s progress towards opening accession negotiations with the European Union. He emphasized that the European perspective remains a strategic priority, but that its realization requires a stable institutional environment and constructive political dynamics.

As part of his visit to the Slovak Republic, Minister Konaković held meetings with the President of the National Council Richard Raši, as well as with the President of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Marián Kéry and members of the committee. During the talks, the Minister emphasized the importance of continued support from European partners to Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing that joint engagement is key to preserving political stability and further approaching membership in the European Union – the Public Relations Office of the MFA BiH announced.
