Experts Warn a Liter of Diesel Could Cost More Than 3 BAM

Energy experts in Bosnia and Herzegovina have announced new fuel price increases as the price of a barrel of oil on global markets has exceeded 92 dollars.

“A liter of diesel could cost more than three convertible marks (BAM) next week,” said Almir Bečarević, an energy expert, as reported by media outlets from Banja Luka.

He estimated that if the price of crude oil on global markets reaches 100 dollars per barrel, the price of diesel in Bosnia and Herzegovina could range between 3.50 and 3.80 BAM per liter.

The difference in diesel prices at gas stations in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina reaches up to 0.50 BAM per liter, according to data from the entity’s Ministry of Trade.

“Retail prices of diesel fuel (BAS EN 590) currently range from 2.41 to 2.96 BAM per liter, with noticeable differences between sales locations,” the Ministry stated.

They explained that these differences are the result of measures limiting profit margins, since fuel stocks purchased at earlier prices are still being sold at older rates, while new deliveries are priced according to current input costs.

In order to protect consumers and stabilize the market, measures limiting margins on petroleum derivatives remain in force in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The price of diesel at gas stations in Banja Luka ranges from 2.62 to 2.85 BAM per liter.

Đorđe Savić, President of the Association for Trade in Oil and Petroleum Derivatives at the Chamber of Commerce of Republika Srpska, emphasized that a fuel price increase in Republika Srpska is expected in the coming days, when a liter of fuel could cost around 3 BAM.
