Fuel Supply Stable as Margin Limits to Take Effect to Protect Consumers in BiH

Federal Trade Minister Amir Hasičević said today that it is possible that in the coming period the price of a liter of diesel will exceed the amount of three BAM.

At the press conference in Sarajevo, the minister said that in the period from March 1 to 8, the import price of diesel increased by about 0.59 BAM per liter, while the retail price on average increased by about 0.39 BAM per liter compared to the prices on February 28, when the average price of diesel was 2.35 BAM/liter, and today’s average price is 2.74 BAM/liter.

Hasičević stated that it is important to emphasize that the growth of retail prices is lower than the growth of purchase prices, precisely because of the margin restrictions that are in force in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“What the Federation can and does is limit the margin, control the market and stabilize the supply, which are measures that directly affect the final price. I remind you that in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the decision to limit the margin, which amounts to 0.25 BAM per liter in retail, is still in force, which represents an important mechanism of consumer protection,” said Hasičević.

He added that there is no increase in fuel prices without the approval and control of the Government, which means that the space for price increases is clearly defined.

“Price differences between pumps are mainly due to different purchase prices and stocks. Citizens can use the FMT Oil application, through which they can see fuel prices at all gas stations in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and also report possible irregularities,” Hasičević said.

He emphasized that at this moment there is no need to activate commodity reserves because the supply is orderly, there are alternative import routes and there are no serious disturbances in the market in the supply of the necessary quantities of fuel.
