In memory of the innocent victims, the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of the Siege of Sarajevo 1992-1995. today, together with members of the victims’ families, friends and representatives of the Municipality of Centar, they laid flowers in front of the memorial plaque and paid tribute to the tragic victims in Hamdije Kreševljakovića Street.
On September 12, 1992, two children, Aida Grozdanić (11 years old) and Eldin Gvožđar (9 years old), lost their lives in the person of Hamdija Kreševljaković 15 (then Dobrovoljačka) from a mortar shell fired from the aggressor positions in Trebević.
“When we thought that UNPROFOR was hiding large weapons around the city, because they told us so, and we believed it, the children went outside to play and as usually happens when three people gather in a besieged city, a shell fell there. In my opinion, this day has more weight because of all the events today, because those of us who were in this city and survived wartime torture know very well who shot and who ordered it. The people of this town were victims of a premeditated crime,” Zdravka Gvožđar, the mother of the deceased Eldin, said on this occasion.
We remind you that on that day there was an apparent truce without military actions of the aggressors in the besieged city and its population. The day was used to put on a show for the children, who had been in shelters and basements for months, so that they could at least temporarily forget about the war in the local community at the time, which was housed in the iconic “Trase” facility. Unfortunately, the grenade interrupted the children’s laughter, extinguishing two young human lives.

On this occasion, Fikret Grabovica said that it is a devastating fact that until today no one has been held accountable for the crimes against the children of besieged Sarajevo, but that the Association will continue the fight for justice and truth so that those responsible for war crimes can be prosecuted before the war crimes court, announced the Municipality of Centar.
