The Islamic community in Bosnia and Herzegovina condemned the media and political attacks on muftis and imams, evaluating them as an attempt to discredit and put pressure on their work.

They announced that they will use all legal mechanisms to protect their dignity and mission.

  • In recent days, we have witnessed open media and political attacks on the bearers of religious authority from the ranks of muftis and imams. The Islamic community in Bosnia and Herzegovina condemns these orchestrated attacks that put pressure on their work through slander and baseless accusations and hinder them in carrying out their mission – announced the Public Relations Office of the Rijaset of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

It is added that an attack on religious officials, especially when it comes from political centers, is a serious attack on freedom of religion and is considered an attack on the entire community and its symbols.

  • The work of religious authorities is subject to public criticism, but what we are witnessing these days are designed discredit campaigns and an attempt to silence them in order to protect the rights of the community represented by the Islamic community in Bosnia and Herzegovina will use all legal mechanisms to protect the dignity and mission of muftis and imams in the public space – concludes the statement, MINA reported.
