BiH officially invited the EU to open Accession Negotiations

At yesterday’s session, the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) adopted a conclusion on the need to adopt a Decision on the opening of negotiations between BiH and the European Union (EU) on EU accession.

The Resolution was adopted ahead of today’s visit of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to BiH. There are those in the EU who believe that the EU should start negotiations with BiH. Among those who are of the same opinion is the Federal Minister for the EU and Constitution at the Federal Chancellery of Austria, Karoline Edtstadler. Ukraine and Moldova are also mentioned as countries with which negotiations could begin.

Moreover, the resolution was proposed by members of the collegium of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of BiH – chairman Marinko Cavara (HDZ) and his deputies Denis Zvizdic (NiP) and Nebojsa Radmanovic (SNSD). 36 parliamentarians voted for the adoption of the resolution, two abstained, while none were against it.

Speaking about why we should vote for the adoption of the resolution, Zvizdic stated that the state authorities have done a lot of serious and demanding work. As an argument in support of this statement, he pointed out that BiH answered 4.000 questions of the EU questionnaire. He claims that countries in the region had 50 to 60 percent fewer questions.

The representative of the opposition SDS, Mladen Bosic, as well as other opposition representatives, doubt that some in the government really mean what is contained in the mentioned Resolution. According to him, they say one thing in Brussels and another in BiH.

NS representative Predrag Kojovic stated that the adoption of the resolution will confirm that both the government and the opposition want to join the EU. As he said, adopting the Resolution without unanimity would be a very bad message, Klix.ba reports.
