The Minister of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, Admir Katica, speaking about the preventive measures taken by the Police Department of the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton to reduce crime and generally increase citizens’ sense of security, said that on average, one raid is carried out every day in Sarajevo.

“A raid is a typical preventive and repressive activity of the police. In the first five months of this year, police officers controlled almost 200 buildings. So, on average, one raid is carried out every day in Sarajevo. This is our way of directly fighting and preventing crime,” he said. He added that almost 4,000 people and more than 200 motor vehicles were found and controlled in those raids.

Katica stated that among the highest priorities of the police is the fight against traffic delinquency, recalling the numerous measures that have been taken with the aim of increasing the safety of citizens in traffic, including confiscation of vehicles.

“In Sarajevo, we have traffic delinquents who use the car as a weapon with which they commit the most serious crimes, murders. That is why we are ruthless in dealing with such. Since the beginning of the year, we have seized 124 vehicles from traffic delinquents. Police officers controlled about 89,000 vehicles and drivers in 5 months , which is about 2,500 more than in the same period last year. With these measures, the police prevent crimes and save lives, and citizens should know about it,” said the minister.

In the area of Sarajevo Canton from January to May 2024, 1,267 public gatherings were held, and police officers carried out planning activities with the aim of their safe holding.

“All public gatherings that were secured by the Sarajevo Canton police took place without a single incident,” said Minister Katica.
