The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Šefik Džaferović, today received the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Akhtar Jamil Rao, who informed him about the tragic scale of the floods in Pakistan, in which more than 1,500 people have lost their lives.
A total of 33.4 million people have been affected by this natural disaster. About 50 percent of the arable land was flooded and livestock was significantly destroyed, which poses a serious threat to food security. In Pakistan, the harvests of cotton, wheat, vegetables and fruits were destroyed.
Floods and landslides caused great damage to the residential and traffic infrastructure, and it is predicted that their reconstruction will take years.
Ambassador Rao also informed Džaferović about the visit of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, who was in Pakistan last week to witness the scope of the devastation.
Chairman Džaferović once again, on behalf of the BiH Presidency and the citizens, expressed deepest sympathies with the people of Pakistan and called on all authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to get involved in providing emergency aid to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, said the BiH Presidency.
