Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Šefik Džaferović, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, met with the President of the World Jewish Congress, Ronald Lauder and expressed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s commitment to preserving the memory and protecting the truth about the Holocaust.
At the meeting, they discussed issues important to the Jewish community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the cooperation between the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the World Jewish Congress.
Džaferović said that Bosnia and Herzegovina is proud of its multicultural history and the Jewish community as an indispensable part of it.
Chairman Džaferović thanked the president of the World Jewish Congress for the overall support of the members and activists of the World Jewish Congress of BiH in the period since independence, and especially for the support of the victims in the fight against revisionism and the defense of the truth about the genocide in Srebrenica.
The necessity of implementing the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights in the Sejdić-Finci case was also emphasized, in order to ensure full equality for Jews in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and concern was expressed about the growth of right-wing populism in Europe.
The meeting was also attended by the General Counsel of the World Jewish Congress, Menachem Rosensaft, who was one of the speakers in Potočari at the commemoration of the 27th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, together with the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN, Sven Alkalaj.
