The Chairman of BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović spoke with the President of the European Council Charles Michel in Baku.

On that occasion, Bećirović thanked Michel for his enormous support to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in particular for his assistance in reaching the European Union (EU) decision to open negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bećirović stressed that full membership in the EU and NATO are key foreign policy goals of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and emphasized the continued commitment to meeting European standards.

He pointed out that Bosnia and Herzegovina has made significant progress in the past two years, which has also been recognized by the European Commission.

“The granting of candidate status for membership in the European Union in December 2022 and the European Council’s decision to open negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina in March this year were a significant incentive for the implementation of further reforms on the European path. As one of the successes, Bećirović highlighted the full alignment of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s foreign policy with the EU’s positions,” the statement from the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina states.

European Council President Charles Michel expressed strong support for Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path to full EU membership, adding that the EU’s support reflects the recognition of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a European partner and the importance of the European integration process for strengthening security and stability in the region and Europe.

At the end of the meeting, Bećirović thanked the EU institutions for their solidarity and assistance to the areas affected by the recent catastrophic natural disasters in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
