BiH Presidency Member Denis Bećirović held a meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska, during which they discussed the security and political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the challenges the country faces on its Euro-Atlantic path.

Bećirović said that Bosnia and Herzegovina and NATO are inextricably linked.

NATO has established and preserved peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the citizens of our country are eternally grateful for that. He emphasized that the state authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina have unanimously defined the legal framework and opted for our country’s membership in NATO.

During the meeting, the BiH Presidency Member pointed out that dangerous attacks on the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina seriously threaten peace and stability in the country. He emphasized that such activities must be stopped through responsible and joint action by the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and international partners, with a clear insistence on respecting the Constitution and laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska made it clear that NATO condemns any secessionist activities. She said that NATO is permanently committed to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and that this is a consistent and continuous NATO policy.

She also added that the final judgments of the Court of BiH must be implemented. The NATO Deputy Secretary General emphasized that, regardless of the outcome of the upcoming UN Security Council session, NATO will not allow a security vacuum in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Special attention during the meeting was paid to security challenges, including the risks of hybrid threats, propaganda and destabilizing activities. The need for a stronger international presence was also highlighted, within which the renewal of the mandate of the EUFOR Althea mission is very important.

At the end of the meeting, it was emphasized that the responsible action of domestic institutions, with active international support, remains an important factor in preventing destabilization and in further strengthening Bosnia and Herzegovina.
