Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić met with the Special Envoy of France for the Western Balkans Rene Trokaz in Dayton.

The interlocutors reflected on the occasion of their stay in Dayton, which has symbolic and political weight, considering the role of the Dayton Peace Agreement in establishing the much-needed peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its importance for the future of the country.

Komšić spoke about the political situation in BiH, and that a final verdict for an individual should not have stopped the EU path or the reform processes in our country. He believes that it is necessary to get out of the current political crisis as soon as possible so that the EU Council in June will finally be able to set a date for negotiations. The way out of the crisis we are in, according to the member of the Presidency of BiH, is to start working on fulfilling three conditions as soon as possible, which are the amendment of two laws – the Law on the Court of BiH and the HJPC, appointing the Chief Negotiator and adopting the Growth Plan. It is a shame for BiH and its citizens not to use the potential offered by the EU by adopting the Growth Plan, which is economic resources.

Special Envoy for the Western Balkans Trokaz conveyed the EU’s support to Bosnia and Herzegovina, clearly stating that France and the EU partner countries want to see BiH integrated into the Union as soon as possible, but that BiH political actors must resolve the current political crisis themselves.

The interlocutors agreed that the future of BiH is to be a democratic country in which every individual will be protected and respected, and at the same time have equal rights.

Komšić concluded by saying that the path of Bosnia and Herzegovina from Dayton to Brussels involves major and necessary reforms, which must begin both in society and in the legislative framework.
