The Mayor of Toronto, Olivia Chow, has congratulated the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team on qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be partly hosted in the Canadian city.
“On behalf of the City of Toronto, I am pleased to extend our warmest congratulations to Bosnia and Herzegovina on your team’s qualification and upcoming participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Toronto. As a proud host city, Toronto looks forward to your team’s participation in 2026 and to welcoming your players, fans and other representatives to our city,” Chow stated in her message.
She added that the city will continue coordinating preparations with FIFA, as well as federal and provincial partners, and will maintain communication with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s representatives to share relevant information ahead of the tournament.
Congratulations were formally conveyed through Daniela Čolić, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Ottawa.
Chow, known as a strong supporter of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has consistently advocated for truth, justice, and the culture of remembrance regarding the Srebrenica genocide.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina national team is expected to have strong backing during the tournament from the large Bosnian diaspora in Toronto and across Canada, as fans look forward to another historic performance on football’s biggest stage.
