The member of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, spoke in Berlin with the Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz today.

During the meaningful conversation, Bećirović pointed out that the relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany are very good and friendly, and that Germany, from the 1990s until today, has proven itself as a strong partner and friend of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He emphasized that it is very important that Germany’s top officials send clear messages that they unequivocally support Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as stress that there will be neither a quick nor a slow disintegration of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Support from Germany

Bećirović expressed special gratitude for the bilateral support that the Government of Germany provides to Bosnia and Herzegovina through development assistance in the implementation of reforms and capacity building in the process of European integration.

Germany is one of the most important foreign trade partners of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The total foreign trade exchange between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany is constantly increasing, and last year it was a record 5.6 billion BAM.

The interest of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the additional strengthening of economic cooperation with the strongest economic power in the European Union, and especially the attraction of direct foreign investments.

The importance of opening negotiations

Member of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, informed Chancellor Scholz about the importance of opening negotiations on the membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the European Union as soon as possible. In this way, said Bećirović, space will be opened for essential reforms in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will have positive effects on the Bosnian economy and society as a whole.

He especially expressed his gratitude for the engagement of Germany within the Berlin process, the continuation of Germany’s commitment and support with the aim of accelerating the European integration of the countries of the Western Balkans, economic and infrastructural development, and the improvement of regional cooperation.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized that Germany is one of the main proponents of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path, and that it remains a strong partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the implementation of reforms, which will ensure the improvement of the rule of law, democracy and economic development of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He pointed out that it is in Germany’s interest to achieve permanent stability in the region by ensuring a European perspective for all the countries of the Western Balkans, Haber.ba reports.
